This is Dinky. She belonged to neighbors at the apartment building
where I live. When they were evicted they left her behind. (I named her
Dinky; I have no idea what her former owners called her.) She was pregnant
with (as it turned out) three kittens. I took this picture before she gave
birth.

Here is a more recent picture of Dinky. She is now (early 2003) about ten years old
and has gotten a bit thick in her old age.

This is Buddy. As his name suggests, I was moved to get another cat as a
companion for Dinky when my other cat, Brandy, died at the end of 2000.
My brother's girlfriend's cat had a bunch
of kittens, and after some hemming and hawing, I decided to take one of them. (My
indecisiveness had one advantage: Nick got the entertaining task of driving Buddy
down to SoCal from San Jose. I delivered him the final 75 miles to my house, and
he yowled every foot of the way.) Buddy was born in early August 2001.

Although Dinky was a bit testy initially, she quickly warmed up to her new companion.
I took this picture about a week after I brought Buddy home.
